Which Nicotine Pouch Strength Matches Your Vape? A 3%-to-5% Conversion Guide
Vape 5% and want pouches for the office or a flight? Here is how 1%, 2%, 3% and 5% vapes map to 3mg, 6mg, 8mg and 9mg pouches, why mg-per-pouch and mg-per-mL are not the same unit, and which ZIMO, ZYN, OEO and Lucy cans to start with.
Most of our pouch customers are vapers first. They buy pouches for the places a vape does not work: the office, a flight, a long drive, a family dinner. The question we get every time is the same: “I vape 5%, what strength pouch is that?” The honest answer is that the two numbers are not the same unit and cannot be converted directly, but there is a reliable way to pick a starting strength and adjust from there. This guide lays it out for every device strength we sell, from the 1% Crosin to a 5% all-day device, and points to specific cans.
Why 5% and 6mg are not the same thing
Vape strength is a concentration. 5% means 50 milligrams of nicotine per millilitre of liquid. A 16 mL IceBomb 18000 contains roughly 800 mg of nicotine in total, delivered a fraction of a milligram at a time across thousands of puffs. How much you absorb depends on how many puffs you take, how long each one is, and how deep.
Pouch strength is a dose. 6mg means six milligrams of nicotine in one pouch. You put it under your lip, it releases most of its nicotine over 20 to 40 minutes, and then it is done. There is no puff count to modulate; the only variables are how long you keep it in and how many you use a day.
So a 5%-versus-6mg comparison is really “how much nicotine do I take in over a vape session” against “how much is in one pouch.” For most adults a 5% device used casually delivers something in the range of what a 6mg pouch gives over 30 minutes, which is why 6mg is the default strength across every brand. Heavy 5% users often find 6mg mild and settle at 8mg or 9mg, and 3% and lower-strength vapers usually find 6mg too strong on the first try.
The conversion table
| Your vape | Start with | If that feels weak | If that feels strong | Products |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1% (Crosin 40K) | 3mg | 4mg (Lucy) | — | ZIMO 3mg Raspberry, ZYN 3mg |
| 2% (Bubblemon 35K) | 3mg | 6mg | — | ZYN 3mg Cool Mint, OEO 3mg |
| 3% (RELX Creator, ICEMAX) | 3mg–4mg | 6mg | 3mg | Lucy Breakers 4mg, OEO 3mg |
| 5% light use (under ~150 puffs/day) | 6mg | 8mg–9mg | 3mg–4mg | ZYN 6mg, ZIMO 6mg |
| 5% heavy use (all-day 40K–50K device) | 6mg–8mg | 9mg | 6mg | OEO 9mg, ZIMO 8mg, Lucy Breakers 8mg |
Strength by strength
If you vape 1% to 2% (Crosin 40K, Bubblemon Tuzzy)
Start at 3mg. ZYN 3mg and ZIMO 3mg Raspberry are the two cans we sell most to low-strength vapers; both are mild enough that the first pouch will not feel like a jolt. Do not start at 6mg, which is twice the nicotine and will feel harsh in the mouth for someone used to a 1% device.
If you vape 3% (RELX Creator, the old ICEMAX)
Start at 3mg or 4mg. Lucy Breakers 4mg is the sweet spot for 3% vapers who find ZYN 3mg too light; the capsule pouch also gives you a mint burst you can trigger when you want it. If 4mg feels like nothing after a week, move to 6mg.
If you vape 5% casually
Start at 6mg. ZYN 6mg Cool Mint is the pouch most 5% vapers try first and most stay on; ZIMO 6mg is the same strength in fruit flavors at a lower price. This is the largest group of our customers and the strength with the most flavors across all four brands.
If you vape 5% all day on a 40K or 50K device
Start at 6mg but expect to move up. OEO 9mg and ZIMO 8mg are the strongest pouches we carry, and Lucy Breakers 8mg is the strongest with a capsule. Heavy vapers who go straight to 9mg usually tolerate it, but a 6mg first can tells you where you actually sit, and it costs $4.49.
Three things that change how strong a pouch feels
Moisture. Moist pouches (OEO, Lucy) release nicotine faster than dry pouches (ZYN), so an OEO 6mg feels stronger in the first ten minutes than a ZYN 6mg even though the dose is the same.
Flavor. Mint and cooling flavors make a pouch feel stronger; fruit and unflavored feel milder at the same milligram figure. If you are between strengths, a mint at the lower strength often lands where you want.
Duration. Taking a pouch out after 15 minutes instead of 40 roughly halves the nicotine you absorb. It is the easiest way to soften a can that turned out too strong.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 6mg pouch the same as a 5% vape?
No, and the units are not comparable. 5% means 50 mg of nicotine per millilitre of e-liquid; 6mg means 6 mg of nicotine in one pouch. A vape delivers nicotine puff by puff over hours; a pouch delivers most of its nicotine over 20 to 40 minutes. For most 5% vapers a 6mg pouch feels similar to a normal session and a 9mg feels strong.
What pouch strength should a 3% vaper start with?
3mg. ZYN 3mg, OEO 3mg and ZIMO 3mg are all sold in single cans. If 3mg feels like nothing after a few days, move to 4mg (Lucy Breakers) or 6mg rather than jumping to 8mg or 9mg.
Can I use pouches and a vape on the same day?
Many adults do: a vape at home and pouches where vaping is not practical. Keep total use in mind, though. If you are already using a 5% device heavily, adding 9mg pouches on top can push nicotine intake higher than you intend. Start at the lower of the two suggested strengths.
Which pouch feels closest to a vape?
Pouches with a cooling or mint profile, because the sensation in the mouth reminds most vapers of an ice flavor. ZYN Cool Mint, OEO Cool Mint and Lucy Breakers Mint are the usual first picks; ZIMO Raspberry is the choice for fruit-vape users.
